Artist Row at the Public Market was born in October 2005. When the Friends of The Public Market were forming, I came to them with the vision of a community-based art fair committed to diversity, affordability and, above all, new and quality art showcasing the rich cultural background in our own community.
There were many well established fairs in the area, but none that were as affordable to artists launching their careers, or committed to local artists. Similarly, many fairs charged steep admissions fees, furthering limiting the diversity of the audience. That's why Artist Row remains free to the public and maintains very nominal entry fee for artists.
When Artist Row Artist Row was first established, it made a commitment to feature live music, dance and theatrical performances, as well as outreach for neighborhood arts and culture initiatives in one of the city's neediest neighborhood.
